The Riding App Story
Case Study No. 06
Project Brief
The project brief (in a nutshell) was to create an engaging app to pair with BRP's Can-Am series.
Research Phase
We found a large base of the users of the Can-Am series were retirees who loved long group road trips.
I was happily surprised to find an entire underground following for the product already existed.
During the research phase I was happily surprised to find an entire underground following for the product already existed (reminding me a lot of the "Jeep Wave club", something that naturally and independently evolved outside of the Jeep Brand). It doesn't end there, there were even clubs and locally governed chapters made for the riders. Jackpot.

I also came across an interaction I really quite liked...Poker Runs!
Digging further, I came across an interaction I really quite liked that the BRP Snow Mobile Clubs were doing (along with other outside clubs). The Snow Mobile Clubs were Poker Runs where each rider was given 4 cards and using their Snow Mobiles they had to venture out and collect the 5th and final card (from fun and designated destinations). Also I'm sure the rules vary but that's the main idea.

Then, and only then, could they have a chance to play. Taking this all in, I thought how can we create a similar experience for our Can-Am series riders?

Time to Ride.  ***Design
The final design allowed ride leaders or "Captains"  of the chapters to be able to create fixed rides or "Events" and further more-  enhance the ride with a game.

Not only that, but the game creator could pick and choose where the riders would receive their digital cards. This also allowing the game creator to setup controlled alternative routes along the duration of the trip.

Poker Setup
Ride leader setting up a ride event and specifically adding a poker game to play during it...  Also showing- selecting where the users will get "unlock" new cards.

Quick Capture on the Bike
The riders would digitally collect all the cards this time throughout the long road trip receiving a notification on their iOS device (Apple Watch).... and eventually have the chance to play their poker hand at the end of the trip. When user rides into range of pre-defined coordinates a notification is triggered and they receive their new poker card.
All rides must come to an end... until next time!
The poker game was only a small portion of the whole concept, but definitely a fun one to call-out!  The prototypes illustrate what it looks like to first setup an event, and then specifically, a Poker Game.
